Whatever time or talent you possess, Historic Tyler needs you! Volunteer opportunities abound whether you are skilled in a particular area such as fund-raising or you simply enjoy being with others while stuffing a mailing or taking tickets at an event. Through the years, thousands have helped by volunteering as docents during Historic Tyler on Tour and countless others have given their time researching historic house histories. If you are willing to assist with any of Historic Tyler's activities, or would be interested in serving on the Board of Directors or the spring tour committee, please let us hear from you! We encourage volunteers to contact the Historic Tyler office at (903) 595-1960 to help on one of the following committees:

HISTORIC TYLER ON TOUR - steering committee plans this historic home tour during Azalea Trails, the major fundraiser for Historic Tyler. Volunteers are needed to serve as docents, house chairs or party helpers at the tour homes and as party helpers during the Candlelight Preview Party.

County/City Relations - This advocacy group promotes restoration and adaptive reuse of threatened historic properties, and keeps apprised of activities on the county and city level that might have an impact on our mission. One of the primary goals of this committee is to influence the City to hire a full-time Preservation Officer in the Planning Department. This goal is part of a larger need for a city-wide preservation plan.

Marketing & Membership - The marketing arm of this committee looks at HTI’s image and how it presents itself to the public, as well as looking at HTI’s outreach materials. The membership arm’s specific goal is to increase membership and at ways to give members more opportunities to get involved.

Heritage Hosts - provides step-on motor coach tour guide service for out-of-town visitors.

Historic Properties & Programs: This committee is charged with establishing criteria for how HTI uses its revolving fund. It also looks at how the organization can get more directly involved with saving Historic Properties. A new help grant program will be introduced by this committee in the near future. Stay tuned for developments!

Fund Development: The goal of this committee is to develop a multi-faceted fundraising plan as well as to review and merge all committee budgets into the organizations annual budget for review & approval by the board.

Special Events: This committee will plan and have oversight of the Holiday Party/Preservation Award; Annual Meeting/Auction and the Preservation Week Photo Contest and any other special events that might arise or come out of the Fundraising plan.

Board Development:

This committee will be involved in long-range planning and serve as the nominating committee for the board and officers of the organization. It identifies, recruits, educates and trains fresh talent.
