The Cushman Home, 206 Mockingbird

The unique Tudor Revival home on Mockingbird was built in 1930. Dr. Roy Page served as the builder and the contractor. In 1931 Lora and I. Pierce Tunnel moved in, along with their three children. Mr. Tunnell was in real estate and oil.

In 1947, Earl and Lucille Vaughn (Vaughn's Sweet Shop) occupied the house followed by Ulvin and Clyde Aldrich (Aldrich Furniture & Antiques) from the early 1950's until the early 1960's. In 1962 and 1963 Lora Tunnel returned to her home. Edward and Terry Mayes lived in the house until Tom and Connie Seale bought the home in 1979.

Susan and Dennis Howard purchased the home in 1994. They made several changes in the property the largest was the updating and remodeling of the kitchen. The present owners, Carol and Ken Cushman, bought the home from the Howards five years ago.

The Cushmans have recently completed a major renovation to this home. The original master bath was converted to a large closet for the master bedroom. The original master bedroom entry was converted to a powder room. A beautiful master bath was added to the back of the home. The hall way was stripped and updated with wood molding.

Thru the years many people have made this house their home. The owners have updated and made changes over time, but many of the lovely features still remain. The original stucco walls curve at the ceiling with a crown-molding accent of cherry wood. The same wood outlines the arch of the unique glass paneled doorway. Also original are the sconces by the doorways. Fine touches such as the triple-leaded, beveled, double door windows of the dining room add to the ambience of the house. The built in cabinets and the light fixture in the breakfast room are original. The fire -place in the living room is outlined in tile imported from Italy in 1930. The quaint guesthouse in the back of the property beside the garage was also built in the 1930s.

Carol and Ken Cushman have definitely maintained the charm of the 1930s in their home and added the luxuries of today.
